LHC Design (LHC) is an award winning practice of architects, urban designers, landscape architects, interior and graphic designers. Based in Exeter and Plymouth the 40-strong team works across the UK designing residential and mixed-use masterplans, offices, housing, education buildings, student accommodation, commercial and community projects.
LHC’s collaborative, client-centred business approach has seen them build long-standing client and supplier relationships, developing projects from the widest strategic vision right through to the smallest detail.
Their approach has resulted in an enviable client portfolio and a strong body of work including all the buildings on Exeter Science Park; multiple projects for the University of Exeter; new headquarters for East Devon District Council; new homes across the south west; the Taunton Rethink masterplan; South Yard marine industries campus in Devonport and the award winning Children’s Hospice South West.
Thompson Jenner have acted for LHC since their formation as Lacey Hickie & Caley Architects in 1992, when the now retired partner Peter Walmsley acted for the new architectural practice. The reins were passed to Exeter Partner Jon Westley in 2011. Jon was already well known to the LHC management team, ensuring that the close relationship and specialist service and support provided remained unchanged.
As well as providing LHC with audit and compliance services, Jon’s role is also acting as a trusted business adviser, assisting the practice with their business planning and providing a sounding board for future business strategy.
Throughout Thompson Jenner’s long relationship with LHC, Jon and his team have met regularly with the LHC management team, to fully understand the environment in which the practice works and to discuss best business practice and plans for future growth. As with any professional services business, LHC needs to have a robust corporate structure, measures to retain key staff and have succession plans in place. Thompson Jenner’s sector knowledge and close working relationship has allowed us to play an active part in helping the practice with all of these issues.
In addition, Thompson Jenner’s sister company, ThinkIT, support and look after all of LHC’s network and IT systems.
The services provided by Thompson Jenner that has supported and continue to support LHC’s success includes:
